This is the French version of The First Nations Meet the First Explorers - Interactive Notebook (prior to 1713 in New France).

This engaging, "artsy", interactive workbook responds to the Ontario Social Studies Curriculum, revised 2013, for Grade 5 students and is excellent for classroom or homeschool use.

The 70 pages of 22 templates (which may be printed in colour or grey scale) cover 4 distinct First Nations cultures and environments; the first European Explorers; and comparison and contrast of the two cultures. This curriculum is meant to pique the students' curiousity so that they might dig deeper with their own Inquiry Projects. For guidance in leading them through this 2nd dimension of the curriculum demands (e.g. the inquiry process), you might be interested to check out the very popular: Les Etudes sociales de l'Ontario et le processus de l'enquête 1ère à 8ème année (see link below - there is also a free sample in my store).

This unit will take approximately 6 weeks to 2 months based on 2 classes of 50 minutes /week wherein it is reasonable to complete 2 templates a class (depending on the number of interruptions).

May be adapted for various learners by eliminating some of the foldables, doing in small groups, doing in partners or giving some choice.

Also included are: various implementation tips, a culminating activity suggested, organization strategies, layout suggestions, photos of templates, template instructions and answer sheets.

Do NOT photocopy on 2 sides of the paper.

Required materials: 2 legal-sized folders per student, coloured printer paper, or coloured cardstock, scissors, glue, pencil crayons, pencils, 1 or two brads ("attaches parisiennes"), stapler, paper clip, photocopier, coloured photocopier if possible - though not necessary.

The students will be very proud and enthusiastic to finish this project, so don't leave it till the end of the year, or you may find yourself teaching into July! You will have fun, too, covering this complex Ontario curricululm with this well-planned and exciting interactive unit.
